GENERAL INFORMATION 2024

MEAL HOURS: Breakfast 7:00am-8:00am Lunch 12:30pm-1:30pm Dinner 6:30pm-7:30pm
Please wear shoes and dress appropriately for meals. Please leave your hat and alcoholic beverages outside the dining room. There is alternative seating on the outside porches for children who are loud.

RIDING: Please read the Riding Qualifications, E Bar L Corral Information, and Eighteen Points of Safety below.

HELMETS: Helmets for horseback riding are strongly recommended but because of their personal nature we cannot provide them for rent (never rent a helmet because you don’t know what it’s been through!).

BOOTS: Leather soled or “riding tread” boots with a significant heel are essential if you ride. These help to prevent your foot from being stuck in the stirrup or from slipping completely through the stirrup. Both are dangerous situations. We have boots available in the store for rent ($2/day).

SID’S DUMP: The social hot spot. Soft drinks, candy, and chips are available for sale. Print a charge slip (on the windowsill) with your full name and specific items purchased. Place the slip on the spindle. You can also store items in the refrigerator, using the shelf that corresponds with your cabin number. Please respect our wish that the campfire be put out by 11:30pm. The water hose is found behind the bench north of the fire pit.

STORE: The store is located in Sid’s Dump. There is a basic supply of toiletries and postcards that are available at any hour (write out a charge slip). Sweatshirts, t-shirts, stamps, jewelry, and souvenirs are available between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

ICE: Ice buckets and chests are provided in each cabin and the ice machine is in Sid’s Dump. The supply is limited so please take as much as you want, but no more than you need. Ask the cabin crew for extra glasses if you need them.

SWIMMING: We swim in the Blackfoot and Clearwater rivers. We do not have a pool. On sunny afternoons the Swim Truck (large, red stock truck) will leave the parking lot at 3:30pm. Towels are provided. Please do not use the towels from your cabin. Swim and tube at your own risk. We launch from the bridge and tube about two miles down to the Swimming Hole. Children under twelve years of age are not allowed to tube down the river unless accompanied by a parent or guardian who has been down the river previously this year. Children under the age of eight are not allowed to tube but can enjoy the Swimming Hole where the Swim Truck driver will supervise them.

LAUNDRY: One laundry bag is provided in each room on a hook inside the closet. If you wish personal laundry done, place it in the bag with a list of the specific articles of clothing, (please indicate items to be pressed), your name, and cabin number. Use a slip off the small paper pad in your desk drawer. Bring your bag to Splish Splash located in the basement of the Main House. Laundry left there before 1pm will be returned to your cabin the same day (if it’s left after 1pm it will be returned the following day). Laundry prices are $17/bag and $3/pressed item.

STONE WASH: This self-use laundromat is on the north side of the Robin’s Nest. There is a $6 charge per load (includes wash, dry, and detergent). Please sign out a charge slip and put it on the spindle (print name and number of loads). A laundry basket for carrying clothes is in your closet.

RED BLANKETS AND LOUNGE CHAIRS: Please do not take red blankets outdoors. Ask the cabin crew for sunbathing or warming blankets if you would like them. If you remove chairs or chaises from the cabin porches, we would appreciate it if you would return them.

MASSAGE: Connie will make appointments on Sunday after you arrive for a massage therapist to come to your cabin. The masseuses typically come on Mondays and Wednesday. The charge of $140.00 will be added directly to your bill. Gratuity may be paid directly to the masseuse or upon request only, Connie can add a tip for the masseuse to your bill.

BOOT RAGS: A bag of sheeting rags for boot polishing is in each closet. Please do not use ranch towels or washcloths for this kind of cleaning.

FISHING: Fishing licenses can be purchased on line at www.fwp.mt.gov . If you wish to take a guided float trip on any of Western Montana’s scenic rivers, please contact Blackfoot River outfitters at www.blackfootriver.com. Please tell them you are staying at the E Bar L Ranch.

CROQUET & LAWN BOWLING: This equipment is available in Johnny's office (the stone building just off the softball field). Please return it when you are finished playing.

SKEET SHOOTING: Meet Andy in the parking lot at 1:15pm. He will accompany you— for your safety and ours. Guests 12 years-old and older are welcomed to shoot. The cost is $32/round.

.22 SHOOTING: Meet in the parking lot at 1:15pm. This closely supervised activity is more popular with the eight to twelve year-old age group. Experience has shown us that parental involvement can be distracting so we prefer parents skip the .22 range. Children 8 years-old and older are allowed to shoot. The cost is $10/person/day.

MOUNTAIN BIKING: To avoid accidents involving horses there is no biking in the morning. Guest bikes are available in the bike rack at Stone Wash. There are no guides. Please return the bikes when you are finished. The bikes are for guests who wish to ride on the trails and roads. They are not meant for shuttle rides between cabins, around ranch buildings, or as children’s toys. No guest bikes to the corral. Please let someone know where you are going and what time you plan on being back. Biking is dangerous. You participate at your own risk.

BILLIARDS: There is a pool table in the Main House. Please, no pool during meal hours or after 11:30pm. Children under the age of twelve are not allowed to play pool unless accompanied by an adult.

BEARS: You are in bear country (Black and Grizzly). Please do not leave food or beverages (including packaging, containers, glasses, and bottles) or anything with a scent, such as lotion or sunscreen, on your porch because it will attract bears and other wildlife.

MOUNTAIN LIONS: Mountain lions frequent the ranch. Small children should not wander unattended at dusk or at night.

RECYCLING: Please use the recycle bins at your cabin and in Sid’s Dump.

ALCOHOL: We do not have a liquor license but welcome you to bring your own. We do not allow drinking in the dining room during meals but suggest enjoying your cocktails on your porch before or after dinner. Each cabin has a refrigerator as well as a shelf at Sid’s for your convenience. The drinking age in Montana is twenty-one years. You are completely responsible for the minors in your care. Please do not serve underage guests or staff alcohol.

SMOKING: If you must smoke, please smoke in the Main House parking lot.
